Most sites about successfully managing finances are written by people who have already achieved their status. What makes us unique is that we are both fresh out of college, just embarking on our journey. We are not there yet, but we are most definitely on a steady path toward achieving our goal of financial independence at a young age. You, as a reader, are most likely in a similar boat as us, trying to figure out the best possible financial decisions to make after graduation and beyond. We hope that our blog and our website in its entirety will help you tremendously in achieving your own financial goals, and we hope that you will post comments, suggestions, questions, and stories of your own path toward financial independence along the way. There is something to be said about a great feat trekked in the company and support of others. We are here to support you, and in return, you will also be pushing us to continue on our journey and maximize our success as well.
Who we are (written by Leanna):
Jason was born and raised in Maine, before moving to Vermont to attend UVM. At UVM, he majored in business with a marketing concentration and minored in history. He graduated in 2011, and entered the working field in Vermont directly after.
I was born and raised in Vermont, and attended Saint Michael’s College in VT as well. I double majored in elementary education and psychology, and graduated in 2014.
Jason and I met each other in 2013, and started dating soon after. We did not live a very frugal lifestyle during the initial months of our relationship, at least not anywhere as frugal as we live currently. After I graduated in May of 2014, I began working full time, and together we began saving and planning our move to Honolulu, HI. Our motivation for moving to Hawaii was simply my strong desire to explore a new environment, gain new life experiences, and, well, for the thrill of it. Little did we know, living in Hawaii would provide us with ample time for self-reflection, and time to seriously focus on discovering what we truly want out of our lives. We began to dislike the idea of feeling burdened by the financial distress of our bank accounts, and living paycheck to paycheck to survive. The idea of financial independence sounded great in our minds, and for a short while, it remained just that: a nice fairy-tale idea. However, the more we spent time researching and looking into making smart financial decisions and becoming financially independent, the more this “fairy-tale” idea started to seem achievable to us. Once we truly believed in ourselves enough to know that we can—and absolutely will—be successful at achieving financial independence at a young age, we had the ball rolling, and we knew that nothing would stop us. We began spending so much time researching and exploring ways to move forward, and started taking positive steps toward our goals. Once we felt we had great momentum, we decided to start blogging about our journey, in hopes that it would inspire other likeminded individuals to make the necessary changes in their lives to achieve the same success. That is how this site was built, and we plan on continuing to upload and post about our journey. We will provide links to tools that have helped us reach the next stepping stone, and we hope that you will gain knowledge and take something out of what we have to offer. Financial independence is achievable. It's not out of reach for anyone at all—you just need to make smart decisions, and be dedicated enough to succeed at achieving it. We hope that you will take on this journey with us, as nothing can beat the rewards we are striving toward.
